Global Warming Fast Facts

The impact of human activities causing global warming has affected our every day lives.

Here are some examples of the impacts:

Rise in human sickness and death:

More frequent and more intensive heat waves could result in a rise in heat-related deaths. These conditions could also aggravate local air quality problems. Global warming is expected to increase the potential geographic range and virulence of tropical diseases as well.

Increased flooding:

As sea levels rise, consequences include loss of coastal wetlands and barrier islands, and a greater risk of flooding in coastal communities.

Increase in droughts and wildfires:

Warmer temperatures could also increase the probability of drought. Greater evaporation, particularly during summer and fall, could exacerbate drought conditions and increase the risk of wildfires.

Ecosystem shifts and species die-off:

The increase in global temperatures is expected to disrupt ecosystems and result in loss of species diversity, as species that cannot adapt, die off.
