Professor Day obtained his Ph.D in plant disease control from the University of East Anglia in 1973. He started teaching Biology in the UK after graduation. He continued his career as a teacher in Hong Kong in 1984. In 1987, he was appointed as Assistant Professor in Education (Science) in the University of Hong Kong and supervised programs such as innovation of an M.Ed. course Environmental Education and of M.Ed and B.Ed courses in Liberal Studies retiring as Associate Professor in 2008.

Professor Day continues to work part-time in the Faculty of Education, HKU as an Honorary Associate Professor. He has over 30 years of experience in education, especially in science and environmental education. His research interests are liberal studies education, health education and the use of the internet in teaching and learning. Prof. Day is advising Heroes2 Environmental Education Program and assisting in the development of environmental education materials.
